After completing the Darlington Arts Center Community Totem Story Pole in June, the official dedication ceremony to unveil the pole to the public will take place on Saturday October 1, 2011 at Darlington Arts Center in
Garnet Valley, PA. at 11:00 a.m.
During the dedication, Totem Rhythms President, Marietta Dantonio-Fryer will be recognizing volunteers who have have met volunteer hours requirements with the President's Volunteer Service Award. The awards include either a bronze, silver or gold lapel pin, a certificate od achievement as well as a congratulatory letter signed by President Barrack Obama.
Totem Rhythms members Marietta Dantonio-Fryer, Ken Hayden and Evelyn Hayden will speak to the assembled crowd about how the project came to be as will speakers from Darlington Arts center and Cheyney University of Pennsylvania who helped sponsor the totem story pole's creation.
In addition to officially dedicating the Community Totem Story Pole, a time capsule containing items from the project such as the original drawings, Darlington Arts Center and Totem Rhythms brochures and memorabilia will be buried close-by the pole's location and will be opened sometime in the future.
After the ceremony concludes, a light lunch and refreshments will be served.
